How It Works
Your complete patient journey with Weight Loss GP Australia
From booking your appointment to receiving ongoing treatment — step by step.
Request an Appointment
The first step to accessing bulk billed weight loss treatment through Weight Loss GP Australia is requesting an appointment. Simply provide your name, contact details, and tell us about your weight loss goals — it takes less than 2 minutes.
Our admin team will review your request and be in touch to confirm your appointment time. There is no obligation and no payment required to request an appointment.
We see patients across QLD, NSW, VIC, WA, SA, ACT and TAS via phone or video call.
Complete a Health Assessment
Before your consultation, you'll complete a short online health questionnaire. This covers your medical history, current medications, BMI, weight loss history, and any relevant conditions such as type 2 diabetes, PCOS, or thyroid disorders.
This pre-consultation assessment allows your GP to prepare for your appointment, meaning less time repeating information and more time discussing your treatment options.
All health information is stored securely in accordance with Australian privacy legislation and is only accessible to your treating GP.
Consult with Your GP
Your GP consultation takes place via secure video call. Appointments typically run 15-30 minutes depending on the complexity of your case.
During your consultation, your GP will review your health assessment, discuss your weight loss goals, take a detailed medical history and recommend the most appropriate treatment pathway for your situation.
If prescription weight loss medication is appropriate, your GP will explain how it works, potential side effects, monitoring requirements, and what results you can realistically expect. If medication is not suitable for you, your GP will discuss alternative options.
You can attend your consultation from anywhere in Australia — your home, office, car or wherever you feel comfortable having a private medical conversation.
Receive Your Treatment Plan
Following your consultation, your GP will provide you with a personalised weight loss treatment plan. This may include prescriptions (sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy), pathology requests for blood tests, dietary and lifestyle guidance, and a follow-up schedule.
If you are prescribed weight loss medication, your GP will arrange appropriate monitoring and follow-up consultations to track your progress, manage any side effects, and adjust your dosage as needed.
Ongoing monitoring is a critical part of safe weight management. Your GP will schedule regular follow-ups — typically every 4-8 weeks initially — to ensure your treatment is working effectively and safely.
What Else You Should Know
What to Expect with Prescription Treatment
Modern weight loss medications work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. Most patients begin on a low dose which is gradually increased over several weeks to minimise side effects. Common initial side effects include nausea, which typically resolves as your body adjusts. Your GP will monitor your progress closely and adjust your dosage accordingly. Results vary, but clinical trials have shown average weight loss of 10-15% of body weight over 12-18 months for suitable patients.
How Prescriptions Are Sent
All prescriptions are sent electronically via eScript directly to your preferred pharmacy. You will receive an SMS or email with your eScript token, which you can present at any pharmacy in Australia. Your pharmacy can advise on current stock availability and pricing. Your GP can also provide authority prescriptions where applicable under the PBS.
Ongoing Monitoring and Follow-Up
Weight loss medication management requires regular GP oversight. Weight Loss GP Australia provides structured follow-up consultations — typically every 4-8 weeks during the initial treatment phase, then quarterly once stable. Follow-up consultations are also bulk billed for eligible patients. Your GP will monitor your weight, blood pressure, metabolic markers and medication tolerability at each visit.
Your Privacy and Safety
All consultations are conducted via encrypted, secure video connection. Your health records are stored in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Our GPs are registered with AHPRA and follow RACGP guidelines for telehealth prescribing.
